Davido is more than a big artist. He remains the only one that ties Wizkid for the “biggest pop artist in Africa” title.
No wonder they’ve been at loggerheads, over the years.
With his ‘frog voice’, David Adeleke has done hits, won Awards, broken records, and now he’s a ‘Legend’, according to him, at least.
He actually needs no introduction, in 2019. If you’re reading this, there’s a 99% tendency you’ve heard of the pop star.
You may know him, maybe since the “Dami Duro” days or you just got to know him, recently when he started dishing out bangers again, especially when he sold out all tickets for his London O2 Arena concert on Sunday night.
Whichever way you know him, doesn’t change the fact that, he’s a King.
Here are seven things I think you may not know about the DMW boss.
1. Dropped Out Of School
So, it’s not only Wizkid that dropped out. Even the last son of Adedeji Adeleke, Davido, dropped out of Oakwood University, when his grades started suffering.
He was a student of Business Administration at Oakwood, but he dropped out and moved to London.
But the good thing is that his father made him agree to sideline his music career and attend school, which he did.
2. Studied Music
So… it’s not only Tiwa Savage that studied music in school. Davido graduated from Babcock University in 2015 with a degree in music after he moved to Nigeria.
It was reported that his father paid the University to build a music department.
3. United States Citizen
Well, when he said “my name, my name, my name, Omo Atlanta” on Olamide‘s “Summer Body,” he wasn’t trying to be bold.
He was actually born in Atlanta, Georgia. This makes him a citizen.
So, don’t expect Davido to have issues trying to enter US, if he ever gets booked for Coachella.
Coincidentally, Young Thug who featured on Davido’s 2016 single, “Pere,” was also born in Atlanta.
4. Almost Signed By D’Banj
Around 2011 that Davido broke into the scene, BangaLee had a fall out with Don Jazzy, exited Mo’hits, and started DB Records.
Most people didn’t know, D’banj almost signed the “Dami Duro” singer, though.
In one interview, Dbanj had revealed that he had given Davido a Rolex wristwatch, as a gift, so he could sign him.
But then, David’s dad called and said he wants his son to go to school. The deal fell out, and Davido never had the chance to be the first ever DavoLee!
5. Owns A N140M House
Davido, is a rich son, of a rich business magnate. He has big money, we all know that. But, then, when you hear that Davido has a house in Lekki worth about N140, 000, 000, you’ll be marveled.
Apart from the expensive building in Lekki, he has another house (in Lekki, too) and a vacation home, in Atlanta.
6. BET Award
Sometimes this year, Wizkid had expressed his grief over international award organizers who don’t present awards to African artists, on stage.
And, shortly after, Davido was in for the BET, with Tiwa Savage. (Wizkid wasn’t nominated.)
In 2018, Davido became the first ever African-based artist, to receive a BET Award on the main stage. Award for? Best International Act!
7. Most Followed Celebrity
What Davido lacks on Twitter, he makes up for on Instagram. Wizkid is topping him on Twitter with a measly 100K+ followers.
But on Instagram? Davido, has 2.2 million more followers than Wiz, making him the most followed, right now.
Clocking in at 9.4M followers, the “Assurance” singer is expected to hit 10M Followers before the mid of this year.
Sure Davido wasn’t lying when he said he’s a Legend, though.
Can We Call Davido, A Legend Now Guys?
